Salvation is the gift of eternal life offered by God to humanity. It is about recognising our need for a Saviour and accepting Jesus Christ as that Saviour. Here is a simple explanation:
- Recognise Sin: We have all made mistakes, big or small. These are sins, things that separate us from God’s perfection. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
- Understand Consequences: Sin has consequences, including spiritual death, separation from God. Romans 6:23 explains, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
- Accept Jesus: Jesus Christ, God’s Son, came to earth, lived a perfect life, and died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
- Believe and Confess: We must believe in our hearts that Jesus is Lord and confess with our mouths that God raised him from the dead. Romans 10:9-10 states, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
- Receive Salvation: By faith, we receive the gift of salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 explains, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Salvation is a free gift, not something we can earn through good deeds. It is available to everyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their Saviour. If you have not already, you can accept this gift today by praying and inviting Jesus into your life.
