When man disobeyed God and transgressed against Him in the Garden of Eden, man fell from glory, grace, and favour with God. He lost his fellowship with God. He ceased from being God’s son by a close relationship. He was now only God’s son by creation. Man was headed for destruction and perdition. But this was not the intention of God when He created man. Because this was not His intention, He made plans to reconcile man to Himself. He planned to restore the broken sonship and fellowship.
The love of God constrained Him to redeem man from the consequences of the fall – sin, guilt, eternal destruction, loss of fellowship with God, and loss of sonship and its privileges. He sent Jesus Christ to die for man. We should have died because ‘… the wages of sin is death; …’ (Romans 6:23 KJV) but Jesus was substituted for us. ‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.’ (John 3:16 KJV)
Because of this sacrifice of Jesus, man can be free from the consequences of the fall. Man can receive the atonement from sin and be free from the guilt and condemnation of sin. Man can be redeemed. Man may now be reconciled to God.
The gift of God is eternal life (Romans 6:23 KJV). To receive God’s forgiveness and be reconciled to Him, man may only appropriate the finished work of Christ in their life by putting their trust in Him, confessing their sins to God asking Him to forgive everyone of them and inviting Jesus into their life to become their Lord and personal Saviour.
