The Doctrine of the Holy Trinity

From God’s Word, we know that the doctrine of the Holy Trinity (Godhead) revolves around the fact that the Godhead consists of three separate, distinct, and recognisable personalities and qualities, perfectly united in one. These personalities are The Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. Each member of the Godhead is God. Three (3) persons – co-eternal, co-existent, and co-equal in power and divine attributes, make each God.

Concerning His being or essence, God is one, and concerning His personality, God is three. The mystery of this concept and doctrine cannot be understood by the finite mind of the natural man. The man who has been redeemed believes the testimony of scriptures by faith because his regenerated mind is renewed to flow with God’s truth.

The Bible is replete with ‘passports’ of the revelation of the Godhead. But let us look at only three such instances where the Holy Trinity was manifested for our understanding.

  1. At creation, we see, “Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness.”
  2. At the Tower of Babel, we see, “The LORD said…let US go down, and there confound their language”.
  3. At the Baptism of Jesus, we see the Son, Jesus, standing right in the River Jordan and the Holy Spirit descending on Him from heaven like a dove. The Father spoke from heaven, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

That is the doctrine of the Holy Trinity (Godhead). That is the truth of the scriptures. That is what every believer should believe, and the Godhead revealed is whom every believer should trust. That is the very Godhead that we revere, worship, and serve. That is our God!
