NCDs: The rest of Africa can follow Angola’s lead

The Angolan Ministry of Health, backed by the World Health Organization, recently hosted a workshop to give the thumbs up to their Multisectoral NCD Plan.

This gathering was a melting pot of experts, academics, government officials, community leaders, and private sector players, all emphasizing the power of teamwork in fighting non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Here’s how other African countries can follow Angola’s lead:

First, bring together health experts, government officials, academics, NGOs, businesses, and community leaders to collaborate on developing a comprehensive Multisectoral NCD Plan tailored to the country’s needs.

Secondly, work closely with international organisations like the World Health Organization to leverage their expertise and resources in tackling NCDs.

Thirdly, launch public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about the risks of NCDs and promote healthy lifestyles.

Fourthly, introduce policies and regulations that support NCD prevention and control, such as tobacco control measures and healthy food initiatives.

Lastly, invest in healthcare infrastructure and workforce training to improve access to NCD prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services across the country.
