Lessons from Jesus on the Mountain

Matthew 8:1
“When He was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him.”

Let us concentrate on the first part of verse 1: “When He was come down from the mountain.”

This means or shows that Jesus went to the mountain. It was an important place of priority for Him. Therefore, He created time to go to the mountain (place of worship), where He met with God the Father. He engaged and carried out some activities there. He came back with packages for all.

Why did Jesus go to the mountain?

He went to have fellowship with the Father. He encountered Him. He communed with Him through prayer. He was renewed, empowered, and fortified for the mission God planned for Him among men. That was why, when He came down, He came down with salvation, deliverances, healings, and many solutions for burdened man.
Jesus had an undeniable attraction. Anywhere He went, He was pulling crowds. The power of God rested on Him, and He unleashed everything and Himself upon man.

What lessons should we learn from this verse?

What is expected of us, and what should we imbibe into our lives to aid our growth in the things of God?

1. Going to the mountain is synonymous with going to pray.
The journey was important to Him. He cherished it and made time for it. So should it be important to me and you. We should cherish prayer time and make time for it.

2. Purposeful Fellowship

He did not go for sightseeing; He went to have fellowship with the Father. We should be armed with the same mind.

3. Focus During Prayer
In the place of prayer, we should let go of any form of distraction.

4. Engaging in Spiritual Activities
We should engage in the activities He engaged in while there. He prayed, He interceded for people, and He allowed Himself to be empowered by God for the mission He had on earth.

This verse shows the importance of setting time aside for fellowship with God. Like Jesus, we must prioritize prayer, focus on our relationship with the Father, and seek renewal and empowerment to fulfil our God-given purpose. Let us cherish the place of worship, knowing that it is where we draw strength, receive divine direction, and prepare for life’s mission.
